What is SoftWave?
SoftWave therapy delivers short bursts of sound waves to the tissue. This sound wave causes many changes. SoftWave Therapy delivers a unique variety of shockwave therapy, which has been used for many years for a variety of orthopedic conditions. The primary changes that we see are an increase in blood flow and an increase in vascularity as a result of the treatment. By increasing blood flow and vascularity, we improve the body’s ability to heal.

What kind of things does SoftWave treat?
There is a growing body of research that supports the use of SoftWave Therapy for many conditions. At Agave Physical Therapy, we have found it to be very helpful with many conditions including:
- Tennis/golfer’s elbow
- Low back pain
- Rotator cuff pain
- Biceps tendonitis
- Hip bursitis
- Plantar fasciitis
- SI joint pain
- Pelvic floor pain

What does treatment consist of?
Treatments vary based on the needs of our patient. Typically we recommend 4-6 sessions over the span of 4-6 weeks. Sessions last from 15-20 minutes, depending on the treatment area. During treatment, the SoftWave delivers shockwaves to the tissue which helps the body to heal. Typical treatments consist of 800-1000 shockwaves per session. Many of our patients notice change in their symptoms immediately after their session.
Does It hurt?
Traditional shockwave therapy can be quite painful due to the intensity of the sound wave and the natural irritability of inflamed tissues. SoftWave Therapy, however, is different. SoftWave Therapy delivers a broad focused shockwave, which tends to be much more comfortable. During treatment there is some slight discomfort, which typically resolves after treatment is completed. Our therapists can better answer this question for you based on your specific needs.
